Sustainability is all too often cast as something separate in education abroad academics, programming, and career-facing components. But it can and should be woven throughout all that we do – one more lens that we apply to help our students engage with their host context, and to prepare them for the global workforce. With that as a premise, this session explores an innovative framework for designing and implementing internship programs that advance sustainability and create meaningful impact.

Articulate the importance of centering sustainability in undergraduate career development abroad.
Design internship progams that have sustainability as an intrinsic element.
Extrapolate strategies to other career-facing components such as project-based learning, community-based learning, research, and consulting.
Incorporate sustainability into assessment and evaluation systems to measure progress and improve implementation.
